What Are Dental Veneers?
Veneers in in Kinnelon, New Jersey are thin, custom-shaped layers of porcelain that are bonded to the fronts of individual teeth. Their design allows for a quick masking of cosmetic imperfections, such as:
• Crooked teeth
• Enamel discoloration
• Mild chips or wear
• Misshaped teeth
• Minor crowding or gaps
Typically, we recommend anywhere from 6-10 veneers, depending on how wide your smile is. They’re placed side by side to transform the overall appearance of your smile’s shape from the outside. Unlike crowns, veneers do not cover the entire tooth. Only the front surfaces are involved. And in most cases, we only place them on the upper teeth.
What to Expect
Most dental crown treatments involve a three-step process.
1. The consultation and planning visit. During this appointment we’ll screen your teeth to determine if they’re healthy enough for veneers. We may also take a set of impressions and photographs. You’ll discuss what type of smile you’re looking for, so that we can plan the appropriate shape, color, and size of veneers for your case.
2. The preparation appointment. A thin layer of enamel is reduced on the front of your veneer teeth. Then an impression is taken and sent to our lab. Temporary veneers may be applied.
Note: In some cases, we may need to create a “wax up” preview between these visits, so that you can see a physical example of the proposed veneer design.
3. The final placement. About two weeks later, we’ll remove the temporary veneers and bond the permanent ones in place.
