Invisalign gives adults the option to truly straighten their teeth without having to wear braces. The process takes six months to two years and the results are permanent. If you have always dreamt of having a straight, beautiful smile, Invisalign may be the solution for you. Dr. Jessica Logan of Integrated Dental Aesthetics in the West Milford, New Jersey area, is a certified Invisalign provider.
Straight Teeth at Any Age
It is a common myth that straightening adult teeth is very difficult or impossible. The truth is that, in most cases, we can straighten adult teeth in six to 18 months. Some patients also wonder if it is worth the trouble because they wore braces as teenagers, only to have their teeth shift out of place again later in life. This typically happens as the wisdom teeth come in and push your other teeth out of alignment. When you straighten your teeth as an adult, you get permanent results.
The Beauty of Invisalign
With Invisalign, there are no brackets and wires to worry about. Your teeth are straightened with clear trays called aligners. Most people will not even notice that you are wearing them.
You take them out to eat, so you do not have to worry about the dietary restrictions that come with braces. You also take them out to brush and floss, so you do not need special tools to clean your teeth and do not run the risk of discoloration and tooth decay that some people experience with braces.
Invisalign aligners are much more comfortable than braces, too. They are smooth and shaped like your teeth, so they will not cut and irritate your cheeks and lips like braces.
How Invisalign Works
Your aligners are custom-made to fit very precisely. They gradually move your teeth into the correct alignment. You wear each pair of aligners for two weeks, then move on to the next pair. Depending on how much adjustment you need, it can take anywhere from six months to two years to complete the entire process. For most adults, it takes about a year to get the desired results.
You will wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours every day. Every two weeks, you move up to the next set, but you only need to see your cosmetic dentist about once every six weeks or so to monitor your progress.
Invisalign Alternative
Invisalign is a wonderful way to truly straighten your teeth, but it is not the right choice for everyone. It requires some work and commitment on your part, and it takes time to see the results. Some patients do not have the time or patience for Invisalign. Whether your life is too busy for multiple appointments or you just want to see the results right away, you may want to consider “instant orthodontics” which uses porcelain veneers to correct the appearance of minor crookedness.
Epigenetic Orthodontics
Up until recently, conventional dental wisdom has suggested that adult jaws could only be enlarged surgically. But thanks to advances in technology, patients who have narrow upper airways, crossbites or constricted mid-facial development no longer need to rely on extreme surgical techniques or even more conservative treatment options to improve problems associated with their teeth, jaws, TMJ, face and airway.
Epigenetic Orthodontics is a non-surgical process that uses a person’s natural gene expression patterning to correct and enhance craniofacial development without the use of wires and brackets. Using a new generation of orthodontic-orthopedic-pneumopedic DNA appliances™, which are worn in a manner similar to removable orthodontic retainers during the evening hours, we can enhance dental and oral health, while also improving facial aesthetics.
The benefits of Epigenetic Orthodontics are numerous:
- Non-surgical TMJ treatment
- Non-surgical airway remodeling™
- Improved sinus development
- Broader, fuller smile
- Enhanced facial development
- Non-surgical facelift
- Improve or prevent sleep apnea
- Correct bad bite relationships
